Why Bolingbrook Businesses Go Missing on Google

Most Bolingbrook businesses are invisible in searches happening two miles from their front door.

Your shop is in Bolingbrook. Half your paperwork says Will County. The other half says DuPage.

You've never thought about it once.

Google has.

The Two-County Problem

Bolingbrook sits across two county lines. Most towns don't. It creates a problem almost nobody here knows they have.

Directory sites pull your address from data companies, and those companies don't agree with each other about which county you're in. One listing says Will. Another says DuPage. A third leaves it blank.

None of that is your fault. It still costs you.

Google checks your business details across dozens of sites to decide how confident it is that you're real and established. Every mismatch shaves a little off that confidence. Enough of them and your listing gets held back while a competitor with tidier records gets shown instead.

It takes an afternoon to clean up. Most businesses here have never had anyone look.

Then There's Naperville

Bolingbrook borders Woodridge, Romeoville, Plainfield, and Naperville. Naperville is the one everybody wants. Bigger town, more money, more customers.

It's also where Bolingbrook businesses waste the most effort.

Google weighs how close you are to whoever is searching. A Bolingbrook address won't beat a Naperville shop in the middle of Naperville. No amount of work changes that, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.

Here's what you can win. The ground between the two towns. And the searches where somebody types "Naperville" instead of saying "near me," because those aren't decided by distance alone.

That's a real opportunity. It's just a different promise from getting you ranked in downtown Naperville.

What Fixes It

The work itself is the same set of fundamentals I lay out on my local SEO page. Your Google Business Profile. Consistent business details everywhere they show up. Recent reviews, arriving steadily. Pages for the towns you serve. Tracking that shows where you rank across your whole area instead of from one spot in it.

What changes here is the order.

County and address records come first, because Bolingbrook breaks them more often than the towns around it. Lock down the Bolingbrook searches second. Only after that do we talk about reaching into the next town over.

One more thing worth doing. The Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce has around 600 members, and a listing there is a real local citation from a source Google trusts. That's more than I can say for most of the directories people pay for.

Why It Helps That I'm Here

I live in Bolingbrook.

So I can meet you at your shop. And when we talk about which towns your customers drive in from, I'm not reading it off a map.

It also means you get me. Not an account manager. Not a junior working through a checklist.

What This Looked Like One Town Over

Pulse Auto Care is an auto repair shop in Plainfield. One town over.

When we started, they turned up in about one in six local searches across their area. Ninety days later it was closer to one in three.

Same shop. Same services. Same town. They were just easier to find.

You can read the full breakdown on my homepage.

Do This Before You Call Anyone

Search for what you do. Not your business name. And run it from somewhere other than your own shop.

Most owners have only ever searched from their own address, signed into their own Google account. That's the easiest test you can hand yourself, and passing it proves nothing at all.

I went through why in why your customers don't see you on Google Maps. If you'd rather start with the fixable reasons a business disappears from the map, start here.

Common Questions

Do you only work with businesses in Bolingbrook?

No. I cover the southwest suburbs: Naperville, Plainfield, Romeoville, Woodridge, Aurora, Joliet. Bolingbrook is where I live, so it's the market I know best.

Can we meet in person?

Yes. I'm in town. Pick a time and I'll come to you.

I'm in Bolingbrook but I want Naperville customers. Can you get me there?

Partly, and I'd rather say so up front than sell you something I can't deliver. Distance is one of the things Google weighs, so a Bolingbrook address isn't going to win in the middle of Naperville. The ground between the two towns is winnable. So are searches where people name the town. That's worth doing. It isn't the same as what most agencies will promise you.

Does the two-county thing really matter?

The county isn't a ranking factor. Inconsistent records are. Bolingbrook produces that inconsistency more than most towns, so it's worth an hour of somebody's time.

How much does it cost?

Depends where you're starting and how much ground you want to cover. That's what the free review is for. I'd rather look at your situation and give you a real number than post a package price that fits nobody.
